The idea is a little overkill for non-geeks/ non-interweb users like my parents, for example. For someone like me, the idea of having every ounce of my digital being downloaded into my tombstone is a very exciting idea.

We dump a lot of ourselves into the internet. Be it through images, words, or other expressions – all of your online personality can be left in one place, in a format that family can pull up at their leisure. A child can learn more about her ancestors. She can flip through beautiful photographs family long ago. Read Grandpa’s blog post on the day he first met his granddaughter.

It may sound a bit like unhealthy denial, but I see it as more of a remembrance/record keeping artifact. This is who I was. This is what I did. Come and learn about me. You know, that kind of thing.

Since we became home owners, one of my dreams has been to build a small shed in the back that acts as a small workspace / quiet observation area. As I started researching the idea, I found lots of ideas using different mediums. The ones that really stand out are the container homes. There are some beautiful living spaces designed by some real imaginative architects.

Not once did I think to see how much a shipping container actually costs. For $1600, my dream is more attainable than I first thought.

When we first moved in, we had one trash can that held all our trash. It was picked up every week. We started recycling (at the local recycling center) and composting (or a while, anyway) and we then needed it picked up every three weeks. Now, no composting, separate recycling container? Both bins get picked up every two to three weeks. Two things amaze me: 1) how much trash we make and 2) how much recycling augments the rate we fill the trash can.
